From 1914 to 1918, Flanders Fields witnessed some of the fiercest battles during the First World War, also known as “The Great War”. Over a million soldiers were wounded, missing or killed in action. The complete destruction of the city of Ypres and the brutal conditions experienced in the Battle of Passchendaele became symbols for the senselessness of war. Today, the landscape still bears witness to this history through its cemeteries, memorials, museums.
Discover restored trenches, stroll amongst quiet war graves at Tyne Cot cemetery or Soldatenfriedhof Langemark, clamber over craters and bunkers on the preserved Hill 60 battlefield and have a walk in the beautiful city of Ypres - home to the Menin Gate Memorial.
The area is also home to some of the best Belgian wines and we have a luxury picnic lunch at one of the vineyards with a private visit and tasting in the heart of Heuvelland at the vineyard of viticulturist Martin Bacquaert – who produces the best possible Belgian wines with a deep respect for nature and climate.

Includes a visit to the Adornes Palace, with the private Church of Jerusalem, a great historical city palace in the centre of Bruges. Dating back to the 16th century, it was constructed by the Italian family - Adornes. The tour continues to the Saint Georges Crossbow Guild situated in the beautiful quarter of Saint-Anna with cobblestone streets, small almshouses, narrow streets, beautiful views over the 'Brugse Reitjes' and the windmills. Members of the Guild will explain its rich history of the guild and give a demonstration.
